Fire Chief/Fire Marshal – Paul Januszewski
Chief Januszewski was appointed to the position of Fire Chief in 2015 to lead the North Haven Fire Department. He is responsible for overall strategic leadership to ensure the department is well positioned to provide the best service to the citizens and visitors of the community. To accomplish this, the Chief leads 36+ career members and over 60 volunteers assigned throughout four stations strategically located within the Town of North Haven. Chief Januszewski is responsible for the overall administration of the Fire Marshal’s Office and also oversees Emergency Management for the Town of North Haven.
Paul Januszewski has been a professional firefighter with the North Haven Fire Department since 2002 having served previously as a volunteer firefighter with the Enfield Fire Department. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Safety Administration and a Masters of Public Administration degree. Additionally, he is a licensed Paramedic and maintains National Registry certification in addition to being a CT certified Fire Service Instructor and Emergency Medical Services Instructor. He is an adjunct professor with the University of New Haven Henry C. Lee Institute where he develops and teaches courses in fire administration and emergency management. Paul is also a graduate of the National Fire Academy’s Executive Fire Officer Program.
Chief Januszewski is an active member of the community coaching youth basketball, youth football, serving in a leadership role for a school PTA and serving on an executive board for a local boys and girls club.
Recently Chief Januszewski has been a presenter at FDIC International in Indianapolis, IN in addition to being selected as an Instructor at the National Fire Academy located in Emmitsburg, MD. Lastly, Chief Januszewski is actively pursuing accreditation as a Chief Fire Officer (CFO) through the Center for Public Safety Excellence, Inc.
Deputy Fire Chief of Administration/Deputy Fire Marshal – David Marcarelli
David J. Marcarelli has been a professional firefighter since 1994 and the Deputy Fire Chief since May 2011. He is a State of Connecticut certified Fire Marshal, Emergency Medical Technician and both a fire service and EMS instructor. Also, he is an adjunct instructor and program coordinator at Gateway Community College teaching in the field of Fire Science and Technology. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Eastern Connecticut State University and a Masters of Business Administration degree from the University of New Haven. He also holds several state certifications in both the fields of Fire Science and Emergency Medical Services.
Deputy Fire Chief of Operations – Scott Martus
Scott Martus has been a member of the North Haven Fire Department since 1995 serving as a third generation volunteer firefighter at West Ridge Company 3. He was hired to the career department in December 2003 and became the Deputy Fire Chief of Operations in July 2017. He is a licensed Paramedic with a Master’s Degree in Emergency Management and Disaster Preparedness as well as a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Safety Administration. He spends most of his time outside of the fire department teaching as an adjunct instructor at the University of New Haven and Gateway Community College and is a member of the advanced life support faculty at Yale-New Haven Hospital Center for EMS.
Fire Inspector – James Eatherton
James W. Eatherton has been a State of Connecticut certified Fire Marshal since 2000 and the Fire Inspector here in North Haven since October 2016. He has been a volunteer firefighter in Windsor for many years and holds several state certifications, including Fire Officer I. He is an adjunct instructor at Gateway Community College teaching in the field of Fire Science and Technology. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the University of Connecticut.
