Message from the Chief

On behalf of the North Haven Fire Department I’d like to welcome you and thank you for visiting our website.  I hope that you find the site informative and engaging.  I am honored to represent and be part of a group of outstanding individuals who proudly serve the citizens and visitors of North Haven.

Just like North Haven itself, the North Haven Fire Department is rich with heritage and tradition.  We strive to combine the best traditions of the fire service with the most innovative advancements in technology, training and equipment to meet the challenges of a growing community.  The North Haven Fire Department is dedicated to provide those we serve with the highest level of fire and rescue services available.  We accept and embrace this challenge with vigor and commitment.

It is the mission of the North Haven Fire Department to protect the citizens in our community from fire and disaster.

This mission is accomplished through aggressive suppression operations by virtue of determination, successful rescue through teamwork and training with pride and integrity.

To deter fire hazards and loss of life by means of public education, prevention by way of code enforcement and maintaining quality emergency medical service to in need of medical care.

It is a privilege to lead a progressive, customer orientated fire department that constantly works hard to meet the needs of its community.

The North Haven Fire Department is currently staffed with 42 full time firefighting personnel a Deputy Chief of Operations, a Deputy Chief of Administration and the Fire Chief with the capacity for 105 volunteer firefighters serving a population of nearly 25,000 residents with a daytime population of approximately 32,000.  Accomplishing this task takes dedication and commitment. Every year, we respond to approximately 5,200 calls for help from residents, businesses, and visitors alike. We do this effectively and efficiently with one of the lowest ratios of staff to call volume in New Haven County and an operational budget of $6.2 million.

The North Haven Fire Department operates out of four strategically located fire stations, three of which are all volunteer and headquarters which is always staffed by career firefighters.  Our jurisdiction includes 21 square miles consisting of 133 lane miles of limited access highway 250 lane miles of town roads, 9500 households and nearly 1000 businesses including critical infrastructure.

Besides normal suppression operations, rescue and EMS efforts, the members of the North Haven Fire Department participate in ongoing fire education and prevention programs.  Other fire education programs are presented to day cares, preschools, public and private schools, industry and civic organizations, nursing homes, healthcare facilities, etc.

Once again, welcome to our website and please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions, or if we can be of assistance to you.   We pledge to be there when you need us, whatever your emergency may be.
