Thee Children Injured, One Critically, After Truck Rollover in North Haven

NORTH HAVEN – Fire Chief Paul Januszewski reports that the North Haven Fire Department responded to a serious motor vehicle crash on Sunday morning which resulted in injuries to four people, three children and their mother. One child was ejected and sustained life-threatening injuries.

North Haven Fire and Police and the Connecticut State Police were dispatched 8:35 a.m. for a reported rollover on I-91 Northbound just prior to exit 12. Upon arrival, firefighters found a full size pickup truck with a snowplow that had rolled over multiple times before coming to a stop between the left and center lanes.

North Haven Fire Department paramedics immediately began triage and emergency medical procedures. Three children were injured: including 6-year-old boy who had been ejected from the vehicle. Multiple ambulances were requested.

The 6-year-old was taken to Yale New Haven Hospital with serious injuries that are considered life-threatening.

The other two children and the mother, 40, who was driving the truck, were taken by ambulance to Yale.

A preliminary investigation indicates that the truck slid on black ice and flipped. It is not known at this time whether the children were properly secured inside the vehicle.

The incident is under investigation by the North Haven Fire Department and Connecticut State Police.

Three lanes of I-91 Northbound were closed during the emergency response and investigation.
