North Haven Fire Department Battles Truck Fire inside FedEx Building

NORTH HAVEN —  Fire Chief Paul Januszewski reports that the North Haven Fire Department battled a vehicle fire inside the FedEx facility in town.

Firefighters responded to the FedEx building located at 347 State St. at 4:46 p.m. Upon arrival, fire companies found heavy smoke coming from one side of the 53,000 sq. ft. building, and a burning parcel delivery truck was found inside.

The building was operating at the time, and many employees had been inside.  Several employees had tried to put out the flames with fire extinguishers. Their efforts likely helped to prevent the flames from spreading.

The fire did not spread to any of the other vehicles located inside the facility. Firefighters put out the fire and worked to ensure that the fire was fully out and that it had not spread to the ceiling or other parts of the building.

Two ambulances responded to the scene to evaluate employees. One employee was transported to an area hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, and fire units remained on the scene into the evening, awaiting a crew to remove the delivery truck from the building.
