North Haven Fire Department Responds to Fatal Crash on I-91 Northbound

Two Killed, One Critical in Early Morning Crash

NORTH HAVEN – Chief Paul Januszewski reports that the North Haven Fire Department responded early this morning to a serious motor vehicle rollover crash in which two occupants were killed.

North Haven Engine 1 and Rescue 1 responded to I-91 Northbound in the area of exit 10 at about 1:15 a.m. Friday for a report of a one-car motor vehicle crash.

Upon arrival, rescuers found a small, white passenger vehicle had somehow left the roadway and crashed into a tree, causing extensive damage to the vehicle, which either rolled over or rotated into the woods.

The force of the crash ejected two of the three occupants from the vehicle. Two occupants, a male and female in their 20s, were killed. The female was taken by ambulance to Yale New Haven Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, and the male was pronounced at the scene. A third occupant, a male in his 20s, was able to exit the vehicle under his own power, and was later transported to Yale New Haven Hospital with critical injuries.

No names are being released at this time, pending notification of next of kin.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash. The make, model, and year of the vehicle are still being determined.

North Haven Fire cleared the scene at 1:45 a.m., according to Lt. Scott Martus, Division 3 Commander, who was the fire department’s incident commander on scene.

The Connecticut State Police are investigating the crash.
