North Haven Fire Department to Hold Battle of the Badges Blood Drive

NORTH HAVEN, Connecticut — Chief Paul Januszewski is pleased to announce that the North Haven Fire Department will participate in a Battle of the Badges blood drive with the North Haven Police Department and encourages residents to donate.

WHEN:

Friday, Sept. 20 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

WHERE:

North Haven Fire Department Station 4 Training Room, 366 Washington Ave.

WHAT:

The North Haven Fire and Police Departments have challenged each other to a Battle of the Badges blood drive, with both departments vying to have the most pints of blood donated on their behalf.

The department with the most pints donated will win a trophy and bragging rights.

Anyone is welcome to take part in the contest and give blood. All blood types are needed to ensure a reliable supply for patients.

“We’re proud to participate in an event that supports such an important cause,” Chief Januszewski said. “Blood donations save many lives each year and disasters like Hurricane Dorian remind everyone that lifesaving blood could be needed at any time.”

“Police officers and firefighters put their lives on the line to keep us safe,” Patricia Sablitz, American Red Cross Northeast Director of Donor Recruitment said. “This blood drive allows civilians to give back in an act of service, all while ensuring there is enough blood on the shelves for the hundreds of patients who need it every day in Connecticut.”

Donors should plan to spend up to an hour donating, but they can save time on the day of the drive by using the Red Cross Rapid Pass to complete their pre-donation reading and health history questions. To see the eligibility requirements to donate blood, visit redcrossblood.org.

To schedule an appointment to donate blood, call 1-800-RED-CROSS or visit redcrossblood.org and enter: North Haven.

North Haven Fire reminds residents to bring a photo ID, be well hydrated and eat before donating blood.
