North Haven Fire Department to Participate in Spring 2020 Connecticut Firefighter Testing Consortium

NORTH HAVEN — Chief Paul Januszewski is pleased to share that the North Haven Fire Department will take part in the 2020 Connecticut Firefighter Consortium Testing, which allows prospective firefighters the opportunity to apply to 15 fire departments through one application process.

The State of Connecticut Firefighter Testing Consortium lets departments throughout the state looking for eligible firefighter candidates to test as a consortium, allowing candidates the ability to apply to all participating departments with one test.

Consortium testing offers a more efficient application process for firefighter applicants. Rather than paying a separate test fee and going through a different testing process for each department, which can often take several years, applicants can pay one fee and complete one test to be eligible for employment in multiple departments.

The process also offers a streamlined hiring approach for departments as those looking for eligible firefighters are provided with a pool of applicants who already meet the basic requirements for possible employment.

“This is a unique opportunity for those interested in the fire service in the state of Connecticut,” Chief Januszewski said. “Candidates who take advantage of the consortium testing will have access to a more time-saving and cost-effective entry into the fire service. For our department, being able to select possible candidates from a list of diverse, well-qualified applicants who have already tested and interviewed with the consortium is a more modern and innovative way for us to fill firefighter vacancies.”

Departments participating in the consortium include the: Danbury Fire Department, East Hartford Fire Department, Town of Farmington Fire Department, Fairfield Fire Department, Mansfield Fire & ES, Naugatuck Fire Department, New Canaan Fire Department, North Haven Fire Department, Norwalk Fire Department, South Fire District, Torrington Fire Department, West Haven Fire Department, Westport Fire Department, Willimantic Fire Department and Wilton Fire Department.

Consortium Testing Process

The minimum requirements for the Connecticut Testing Consortium include a $145 non-refundable application fee, U.S. citizenship or legal authorization to work in the U.S., a high school diploma or GED and a valid driver’s license. Individual departments may have additional requirements for applicants to meet.
