Town of North Haven Announces Steps Community is Taking in Response to Coronavirus

First Selectman, Michael J. Freda and Fire Chief/Emergency Management Director Paul Januszewski, announce that the Town of North Haven will be immediately suspending upcoming town events, gatherings and non-essential meetings until further notice, as well as closing schools and several town buildings, for a minimum of two weeks.

All North Haven Public schools are cancelled for the next two weeks following their early dismissal today. All school sponsored events and programs are cancelled as well. North Haven School District officials will continue to monitor the situation and proceed in a way that both minimizes the disruption to students’ learning while ensuring the wellness of the school community. In addition to public schools, the following town buildings will also be closed: The Library, Senior Center, Pool and Community Services Daycare.

The Town of North Haven has recently received notification of an individual in town with indirect exposure to COVID-19. This individual is currently under self-quarantine and being tested for COVID-19.

During the period of time that schools and town buildings will be closed, additional cleaning and sterilizing will take place. Town and School buildings are being cleaned and disinfected including desks, chairs, light switches, door pushes, pencil sharpeners, fitness equipment, lockers, conference tables, lavatories, faculty rooms, offices, all floors and more. The Town has invested in a new electrostatic sprayer system that will include an enhanced portfolio of superior disinfectants and sanitizers that will provide superior square footage coverage in all town buildings and offices.

First Selectman Michael Freda said, “The health, wellness and safety of our residents and town staff are our top priority and we believe this proactive step will help to ensure we are meeting the goal of protecting our community.”

The Town of North Haven is closely following recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Connecticut State Department of Public Health (DPH). First Selectman Freda is working closely with the State of Connecticut and the Governor’s office during this critical time of proactively managing the COVID-19 public safety issue.
